Daydream in Blue
This mural was done for the nonprofit Downtown Denver Partnership as part of an urban renewal initiative on the 16th Street Mall at the Curtis Street intersection. It was installed in conjunction with an event call "Meet in the Street," which hosted several different types of artistic stations along the mall including an opera group, face painters, etc. The free mall bus was re-routed for the day to the surrounding streets to get a feel for the possibility of a purely pedestrian mall. The Denver Botanic gardens maintains the block of the mall directly adjacent to this intersection and the mural is based off of a photograph I took of poppies at the Botanic Gardens the previous year. The design was limited to the use of 3 colors of paint only. The mural was installed with the aid of my family, several of my friends, and a few generous passerby's.
The name "Daydream in Blue" is inspired by a song from the artist i monster with the same title. I woke up singing the chorus of this song the day I decided to leave architecture behind and become an artist:
"Daydream
I fell asleep amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
On a beautiful day
Daydream
I dream of you amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
Such a beautiful day"
