Purple Park Pond
This mural is in Superior, Colorado at a bus shelter in Purple Park along Rock Creek Parkway and was installed in 2020. The large pond at this park is the most magnetic feature of the area. The rarest element of our arid climate is water and as a permaculturist, I am so grateful for it because of water's ability to create and support biodiverse ecosystems. As an artist, I am drawn to how it reflects its surroundings in a beautifully distorted way that is ever changing based on the wind, the light from shifting clouds and the location of the sun and the moon, and any creatures that might be interacting with it causing ripples and bubbles. The style of the piece emulates this beautiful distortion. It is like a reflection of a reflection - a reflection inception, if you will! Moreover, I am obsessed with color and I pondered by the pond (hehe) as to why the park is called "Purple Park." I also tried researching it and didn't really find out how it got its name, but decided this should be a dominant color in the piece.
